If you’re anything like me, there’s a good chance you sometimes fall into the seductive trap of productivity.
It’s such a glamorous term, especially for entrepreneurs. If you aren’t productive, do you even have a business?!
Then again, they say rest should be just as important as anything else you schedule into your day, but it looks kind of dumb to say “3pm: Naptime” in my calendar for a grown adult with a self-inflicted job and bills to pay.
But – playing devil’s advocate for myself here – what if rest, or at the very least questioning the hustle, was a not just an ambition but a project? What if we made it a Project, with a capital P? Maybe we’d take it more seriously, right?
When I think of hustling, I immediately think of a planner. No idea why. Maybe it’s because I associate hustling with being busy and having lots of appointments and tasks to keep track of somewhere. In the golden days before Google Cal, paper planners were my go-to.
Though I am currently under a personally-enforced planner embargo (due to purchasing too many planners I never used), I still get all giddy when I think about purchasing other people purchasing a planner. 🙂
Anyway, what if we used our typical productivity tools as a means of questioning the hustle? Defying the patriarchy? Make the jaded old white dudes roll over in their corporate office chairs by gasp taking naps whenever we damn well feel like it!
Maybe that’s a lot to ask of a productivity tool.
Especially one that doesn’t even really include space for anything beyond appointments and reminders.
Welp, when it comes to inspired ideas like #morenaps, you know I’m all over it.
Last post I shared a planner I created a few years back called the Project Box Planner. Each daily page has space for multiple “Project” task lists, a daily schedule, and room for notes, tracking your energy, gratitude, and more.
Now that I’m resurfacing it and playing with it again, might I suggest turning Rest or Anti-Hustle into a Project? Create a daily checklist of anti-hustle things to do, or not do, and make it a part of your everyday.
You can download it for free right here.
I’m sharing this resource in this season on purpose because shit’s about to hit the fan, y’all. It’s August. Christmas will be here, like, tomorrow. Right now is the time to get our ducks in a row for the holiday season and the end-of-the-year-in-general so we don’t hustle our buns toward burnout as 2023 gets closer.
I hope having a fresh tool for keeping your hustle in check will inspire you to rest more, even when shit might hit the fan very soon.
We’ll just watch it hit the fan from our napping spot on the couch, right? 🙂
